bosk - huge humped animal with shaggy hair and pointed horns. We use the meat and milk for food, butter, cream, cheese,etc. We tan its hide to make clothing. Weapons are made from its hump, many tools and various implements are made from its bone & horns - we even use its dung for fuel. It is similar to earths buffalo.
eel- a gorean delicacy, there are 3 varieties, river eel, black eel and the spotted eel.
eel dock - fish that weighs 8-10 lbs., and is 4 feet long.
finch ( whisteling ) a flighted bird that eats bugs, it is found in the ground level of the rainforest
fleer - hooked billed birds that hunt at night
long billed fleers- same as above, found at the emergent level of the rainforest.
prarie fleer- yellow bird with long wings and a sharp bill, sometimes called maize bird or corn bird from an old belief that it is usually the first bird to find food.
frevet- small quick mammal that eats insects, kept inside some homes for insect control.
gant (arctic)- a migratory bird that nests on cliffs in the Hrimgan Mountains, the southern border of polar north. When its eggs are frozen they are eaten like apples.
gant (jungle)-related to marsh gant, it inhabits rivers in rainforests inland of schendi.
gant (marsh)- a small, long legged horned bird, broad billed and broad winged, hunted by marsh girls. Its cry is imitated by the rence people as a surrepititous means of communication.
giani - a panther like cat found in the rainforests of Schendi.
gim ( horned ) small purplish owl like bird with tufts over its eyes, weighs about 4 oz. Found in the forests of Northern Gor.
gim ( lang )- bird, found at ground level of the Schendi rainforests
gim (yellow) - related to the horned gim, inhabits the 2nd level of the rainforests
gint- is a 6 inch fresh water fish that can walk on land on its pectoral fins, often found in the company of tharlarion, feeding off the scraps of their kills. It has bulbous eyes and flipper like fins.
gint (giant)- it is the larger cousin of the gint (above) also walks on land on its pectoral fins and has a four spined dorsal fin and is amphibious
golden beatle-an insect the size of a rhino, it lives in caves below the nests of the Preist Kings in the Sardar Mountains, it eats Preist Kings by releasing an odor that is so compelling and attractive to a PK that to die in this manner is referred to as " succumbing to the pleasures of a golden beatle".
grunt - large carniverous salt water fish which inhabit Thassa and are attracted by the blood of the wounded.
grunt (blue) - a little larger than the grunt, they are realted and it is also attracted by blood.
grunt ( speckled) - a fish inhabiting the Thassa caught as food by sailors.
grunt(white bellied) - a large game fish which haunts the plankton beds in the polar noth to feed on parasite fish.
gull- broad winged bird found in Torvaldsland, its feathers are used on war arrows.
hith - a rare gorean python so fat a man can not wrap his arms around it.
hurt - a marsupial similar to a kangaroo, it is raised on ranches. Has 2 legs and black wool that is sheered four times annually.
kaiila (southern) -large, 20-22 hands. 3 eyelids, a long neck, silky fur, can cover alot of territory in a day. The southern variety do not suckle their young.
kailla (desert) same as southern variety except they suckle their young.
kailiauk (barren) gigantic dangerous beasts that stand 20 - 25 feet. 4000 lbs, they're hunted, hides traded, and have a trident horn.
kailiauk (forests) they are huge, their horns are tooled and their hides are major exports of the Port Schendi.
larl - there are many varieties of larls, including black, red, white, and snow. The snow larl has 2 stomachs and the second stomach is filled with enough food to last it the entire winter, it has a thick snow white pelt that is valuable and sold in Ar for a half silver tarsk, found in the Polar North.
leem - small arctic rodent, 5 - 10 oz. hibernates in winters, furs sold by red hunters
lice - marble sized parasites infesting wild tarns , warriors pluck them from the tarns neck and feed them to the bird as a treat.
ost - tiny snake 12 inches long, bright orange, and extremely painfull death within seconds. It is the most venomous snake on gor, there is also the rainforest variety found inland of Schendi and are red and black striped.
panther - less dangerous to man than the northern variety inhabitant of the rainforest.
parsit fish - a silvery fish having brown stripes and it camoflauges itself by tucking its legs under it to look like a rock. One foot in diameter and catches small rodents and birds in its web.
rock spider - found in lower levels of rainforests - brown or black andit camoflauges itself by tucking its legs under it to look like a rock. One foot in diameter and catches small rodents and birds in its web.
salt shark - long bodied, 12' or more. carniverous fish having gills situated under the jaw, several rows of triangular teeth, a sickle like tail and a sail like dorsal fin, inhabits the brine pits such as those in Ta hari.
river shark - a narrow lack vicious carniverous fish with a triangular dorsal fin which inhabits the rivers of gor.
salamander - they are blind, white , inhabitants of brine pits of the salt mines of the Tahari. Long stem like legs with fern like filaments which are feather gills.
sleen ( sea ) -aquatic mammal found in polar seas, it follows the parsit current in search of their main source of food, the parsit fish. There are 4 main types , brown, black, tusked and flatnosed. Some remain under ice year round, mostly dormant, but rising every quarter of an ahn or so to breathe thru cracks in the ice.
sleen -(the same description is given for all of the following sleen : black, forest, flatnosed, brown, and tufted)which is - " one of the 4 main types of sea sleen.
sea sleen ( white spotted ) its fur is used for cloaks
sleen (grey) gors finest tracker, 6 legs, furred mammal with silver grey fur, it has a huge sinuous body, thick as a drum and is 14- 15 feet long. It has a huge broad head, huge jaws, 2 rows of fangs and dark tongue, slit like pupils set in widly set eyes, and it can follow a scent that is weeks old for 1000 passangs.
sleen (hunting) it is a hunter of men, or slaves as the case may be. It is domesticated, double fanged and 6 footed, its tail switches back and forth getting ridgid as it hunts. Its ears flatten back against its head just prior to its final charge attack on its prey.
sleen (prarie) smaller but still vicious, tawny in color, unpredictable, trained to respond only to its Masters voice, they are nocturnal and released from their cages at night.
slime worm- inhabits the caverns below the nests in the Sardar Mountains, scavenges the remains of the Golden Beatles kills.
sorp - a shellfish common especially in the Vosk river, like an oyster it makes pearls.
swamp spiders - ( spider people) in swampland near Ar. They can speak with humans using a translator they wear around their abdomans. They spin curlon fibers which is used in textile mills of Ar.
tabuk like earths antelope but much bigger. They are tawny massive and swift. It stands 10 hands at the shoulders, they have a single spiraling ivory horn which at its base can be 2 1/2 inches in diameter and over a yard in length. They have very sweet meat because they eat berries. Tarns feed on these as well as goreans. The red savages depend on them.
tarn - a crested hawk like bird large enough to be saddled and rode. They are native to the mountainous regions of Treve, and are a larger and more vicious variety that the domesticated type that is bred in captivity. They are bred for speed and agression.
tarntaurous - half man half tarn, maybe compared to mythical centaur of the earth.
tarsk - similar to a wild boar on earth, it is shaggy, and maned, a grunting, rooting animal. It is a common source of meat, we get ham, bacon and chops from the tarsk.
tarsk (giant)- stands 10hands and is hunted with lances from tarnback.
tharlarion - one of several types of reptiles, some are domesticated, its fat is rendered for oil for our oil lamps.
tharlarion (broad) - sluggish, used as draft animals, herbivorous
tharlarion(land) - land dwelling - used for towing, can swim though not as efficiently as the river tharlarion.
tharlarion(river1) -extremely large, web footed lizards used by bargemen to pull barges.
